Symptoms of recovery period after circumcision surgery

By:Iris Views:445

Symptoms such as wound pain, swelling, and exudation may occur during the recovery period after circumcision surgery. Common symptoms after circumcision mainly include slight bleeding from the wound, local edema, erection pain, urethral meatus stenosis, scar formation, etc., which are generally a normal recovery process.

1. Slight bleeding from the wound

A small amount of bleeding from the incision is common within 24 hours after surgery, and blood scab may form after the capillaries in the wound are broken. It is recommended to apply pressure bandage with sterile gauze for 12 hours after surgery to avoid strenuous activities that may cause scabs to fall off. If bleeding soaks through the gauze or bleeding continues for more than 48 hours, a timely review is required.

2. Local edema

Annular edema may appear around the coronary sulcus of the penis within 3 days after surgery, which is related to obstruction of lymphatic drainage. The edema usually resolves on its own within 1 week, and symptoms can be relieved by raising the scrotum. If the edema is severe and the skin is shiny, infection must be ruled out.

3. Painful erection

Physiological erections at night may pull on the wound sutures and cause stinging pain, which is common within 2 weeks after surgery. You can reduce penis congestion by lying on your side with your knees bent. If necessary, take ibuprofen sustained-release capsules or acetaminophen tablets as directed by your doctor to relieve pain.

4. Urethral meatus stenosis

Tight bandaging or improper care may lead to mucosal adhesion at the urethral opening, which may manifest as bifurcated urination or thinning of the urine line. Soaking the penis in warm water for 5 minutes every day after surgery can help prevent it. Urethral dilation is required when stricture occurs.

5. Scar formation

The fibrous proliferation produced during the wound healing process may form induration, which is more common in people with scarring constitution. After the sutures are removed, silicone gel can be applied to the incision, and compound heparin sodium allantoin gel can be used to inhibit scar hyperplasia.

After surgery, the perineum should be kept clean and dry, wounds should be disinfected with iodophor daily, and loose cotton underwear should be worn to reduce friction. Avoid spicy and stimulating foods in your diet, and prohibit sexual life and strenuous exercise within 2 weeks. If abnormal symptoms such as persistent fever, pus discharge from wounds, or difficulty urinating occur, seek medical attention immediately. During the recovery period, the dressing should be changed regularly according to the doctor's instructions, and the healing status should be reviewed 1 month after the operation.
