Symptoms of balanoposthitis

By:Stella Views:379

Balanoposthitis mainly manifests as redness and swelling of the foreskin and glans, pain, itching, abnormal secretions and other symptoms. Balanoposthitis may be related to infection, allergy, trauma and other factors. It is recommended that patients seek medical treatment in time and receive targeted treatment under the guidance of a doctor.

Symptoms of balanoposthitis

1. Redness and swelling

Patients with balanoposthitis usually experience redness and swelling of the foreskin and glans, and local skin redness may be accompanied by a feeling of warmth. The degree of redness and swelling may vary depending on the severity of the inflammation. Mild inflammation may only show up as mild redness in the area, while severe inflammation may cause significant swelling. Infectious balanoposthitis may be caused by bacteria or fungi, and the type of pathogen needs to be confirmed through secretion examination. Redness and swelling caused by allergic reactions should be investigated for contact allergens, such as detergents or condom materials.

2. Pain

Pain is a common symptom of balanoposthitis and may appear as a burning or stinging sensation, and may worsen when urinating. Pain caused by bacterial infection is usually severe and may be accompanied by purulent discharge. Fungal infections such as candidal balanitis may cause mild pain with significant itching. Pain caused by trauma or excessive cleaning is mostly temporary and may be relieved by reducing the irritation. If the pain persists, you need to seek medical attention to rule out other urinary system diseases.

3. Itching

Itching symptoms are more prominent in fungal balanoposthitis and may worsen at night and affect sleep. Allergic balanitis may also cause severe itching, but is usually not accompanied by significant discharge. Long-term itching may cause patients to scratch repeatedly, thereby aggravating the local inflammatory response. Keeping the area clean and dry can help relieve itching symptoms. Intractable itching requires fungal microscopy or allergen testing to determine the cause.

4. Abnormal secretions

Balanoposthitis may present with white cheese-like, yellow purulent, or clear mucoid discharge. Candida infection is common with white lumpy discharge, while bacterial infection is mostly yellow viscous pus. The discharge may be accompanied by an odor, especially when combined with anaerobic bacterial infection. Excessive discharge may cause foreskin adhesions or difficulty urinating. If you find abnormal secretions, you should avoid cleaning them yourself and keep samples for medical examination.

5. Discomfort in urination

Some patients with balanoposthitis may experience symptoms such as painful urination, frequency or urgency of urination. When inflammation spreads to the urethral opening, it may cause a burning sensation during urination. Balanoposthitis in infants and young children may manifest as crying during urination or resistance to urination. Recurrent urinary discomfort needs to be differentiated from urinary tract infection. Properly increasing fluid intake can help relieve symptoms of urinary discomfort.

Patients with balanoposthitis should pay attention to keeping the perineum clean and dry on a daily basis and avoid using irritating lotions for cleaning. Choose cotton underwear with good breathability to avoid excessive local friction. The diet should be light and reduce the intake of spicy and irritating foods. If symptoms occur, you should seek medical treatment promptly and avoid using antibiotics or hormone ointments on your own. Sexual intercourse should be avoided during treatment to prevent cross-infection or aggravation of the condition. Regular check-ups help evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and prevent recurrence.
