Patients with balanitis can generally use potassium permanganate solution for local cleaning under the guidance of a doctor. Potassium permanganate has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, but it needs to be strictly diluted before use to avoid skin irritation caused by excessive concentration.

Potassium permanganate solution is suitable for the auxiliary treatment of bacterial balanitis. When using it, the tablets need to be completely dissolved in warm water to prepare a 0.01%-0.02% light pink solution. Soak or rinse the affected area 1-2 times a day for 5-10 minutes each time to help reduce redness, swelling and discharge. It should be noted that the solution must be prepared and used immediately to avoid oxidation failure, and residual drugs must be rinsed with clean water after use. For balanitis complicated by fungal infection, potassium permanganate has limited effect and needs to be treated with antifungal drugs.

High concentrations of potassium permanganate may cause localized burns, dry skin and even chemical dermatitis. Some patients are allergic to potassium permanganate and may experience symptoms such as rash and worsening of itching after use. Infants, young children, diabetics and people with damaged skin should use it with caution. Improper use may delay wound healing. If symptoms do not improve after 3 days of medication or if adverse reactions such as increased pain or blisters occur, discontinue use immediately and seek medical advice.

Keep the perineum clean and dry every day, avoid using irritating lotions, and choose breathable cotton underwear. Sexual life should be suspended during treatment, and the spouse should be examined and treated simultaneously. If it occurs repeatedly or is accompanied by symptoms such as urinary tract discharge and fever, underlying diseases such as diabetes need to be checked in time. Potassium permanganate is only used as an auxiliary treatment. Severe infections require comprehensive treatment with antibiotic ointment such as mupirocin ointment as directed by a doctor.
