Ovarian cancer may cause symptoms of bloating and increased gas. Ovarian cancer is one of the common malignant tumors of the female reproductive system. The early symptoms are not obvious. As the disease progresses, tumor growth or abdominal metastasis may cause symptoms such as abdominal distension and indigestion. Increased abdominal bloating and flatulence may be related to tumors compressing the intestines, accumulation of ascites, or digestive disorders.
Abdominal bloating caused by ovarian cancer usually manifests as persistent abdominal distension, which may be accompanied by loss of appetite and early satiety. Tumor growth or ascites formation will directly increase abdominal pressure, causing gastrointestinal motility to slow down, food retention time to prolong, and intestinal flora to ferment and produce gas. Some patients may also experience a feeling of distension in the lower abdomen or pelvic pressure, which is especially aggravated when standing or moving. Increased flatulence may be related to intestinal dysfunction, and inflammatory factors released by tumors may affect intestinal neuroregulation.
Non-pathological factors such as improper diet and irritable bowel syndrome may also cause similar symptoms. Excessive intake of high-fiber foods, lactose intolerance, or eating gas-producing foods such as beans and onions can cause temporary bloating and gas. Symptoms caused by functional gastrointestinal disorders are often intermittent and related to emotional stress or specific foods. However, symptoms related to ovarian cancer often worsen progressively and may be accompanied by warning signs such as weight loss and abnormal vaginal bleeding.
It is recommended that women who experience unexplained persistent abdominal distension for more than 2-3 weeks seek medical examination promptly, especially if it is accompanied by pelvic pain, changes in urinary habits, or abnormal bleeding. Doctors may make differential diagnoses through gynecological examination, tumor marker testing, and imaging studies. After diagnosis, a comprehensive plan such as surgical resection, chemotherapy or targeted therapy needs to be selected according to the stage. You can record the changes in symptoms on a daily basis, avoid excessive intake of gas-producing foods, and maintain moderate activities to promote intestinal peristalsis.
