　　According to Xinhua News Agency, the Ministry of Health and other departments officially issued an announcement yesterday to withdraw the food additives benzoyl peroxide and calcium peroxide. Starting from May 1, it is prohibited to produce and add these two substances to flour.

　　According to reports, with the improvement of wheat varieties and the improvement of flour processing technology in my country, the existing processing technology can meet the needs of flour whiteness, and many flour processing companies no longer use benzoyl peroxide as a "flour whitening agent." After investigation and research, my country's food authorities have proposed that there is no need to use benzoyl peroxide in my country's flour processing industry. At the same time, Chinese consumers generally require wheat flour to maintain its original color, aroma, taste and nutritional content, pursue natural health, and minimize the intake of chemical substances.

　　According to the provisions of the Food Safety Law, food additives must be technically necessary and proven safe and reliable through risk assessment before they can be included in the scope of permitted use. Benzoyl peroxide and calcium peroxide are no longer technically necessary, so the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other departments jointly issued an announcement to cancel them.

　　According to Su Zhi, director of the Food Safety Comprehensive Coordination and Health Supervision Bureau of the Ministry of Health, 7 new food additive standards and 58 newly designated food additive standards will be announced soon.
