Traditional Chinese medicine supports medical reform with Chinese solutions

　　It was learned from the National Traditional Chinese Medicine Work Conference: The "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period was the period during which my country's traditional Chinese medicine service capabilities improved the fastest. Traditional Chinese medicine has made positive contributions to exploring "Chinese-style solutions" to medical reform. In 2014, the total output value of the traditional Chinese medicine industry exceeded 730 billion yuan, accounting for nearly one-third of the total value of my country's pharmaceutical industry, and the import and export volume reached 4.63 billion US dollars. A number of traditional Chinese medicine products with independent intellectual property rights have been developed, and the annual sales of five major varieties of traditional Chinese medicine are more than 3 billion yuan.

　　Wang Guoqiang, director of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, pointed out that my country’s traditional Chinese medicine service capabilities have improved significantly in the past five years. The number of traditional Chinese medicine hospitals increased by 500, an increase of 15.5%, and the number of traditional Chinese medicine outpatient departments and clinics also increased by 531 and 5,890 respectively. 91.2% of community health service centers, 80.2% of township health centers, 70.7% of community health service stations and 64.9% of village clinics across the country can provide traditional Chinese medicine services.

　　In 2015, the "Traditional Chinese Medicine Law (Draft)" has entered the final legislative process. “"TCM prevents and treats major diseases and cures pre-existing diseases" was included in the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" special project of the national key R&D plan. A total of 3 national standards and a number of group standards have been released and implemented, 12 endangered medicinal material seedling breeding bases have been established, and 200 kinds of ancient Chinese medicine books have been published; in terms of deepening medical reform, the traditional Chinese medicine health management service project in the basic public health service project covers 40% of the target population; Hebei 229 regions including Shijiazhuang and Chang'an District have established national advanced units for grassroots Chinese medicine work to serve grassroots Chinese medicine work; the central government has invested 206 million yuan to support 81 Tibetan hospitals and 22 national key ethnic hospitals in five provinces (districts) to enhance ethnic medicine service capabilities; the China-Czech Traditional Chinese Medicine Center has become my country's first health cooperation project since the implementation of the "Belt and Road Initiative".

　　“During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the formulation and implementation of the "Strategic Plan for the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (2016-2030)" and the promulgation of the "Traditional Chinese Medicine Law" will become the focus. The traditional Chinese medicine system will also improve the supervision mechanism and actively develop new business formats such as health care and health tourism. It will build a number of traditional Chinese medicine health care institutions, carry out pilot projects integrating traditional Chinese medicine and elderly care services, and develop traditional Chinese medicine health tourism products and projects with regional characteristics. In addition, the Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine will focus on serving the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and make every effort to promote traditional Chinese medicine to the world.
