Vulvar itching at night may be caused by diseases such as vaginitis, vulvar eczema, diabetes, or may be related to non-disease factors such as friction with clothing and excessive cleaning. It is recommended to seek medical treatment promptly to determine the cause.

    1. Vaginitis

Fungal vaginitis is a common cause of nocturnal vulvar itching, and Candida albicans infection can cause a tofu-like discharge and severe itching. Antifungal drugs such as clotrimazole vaginal tablets, miconazole nitrate suppositories, and nystatin effervescent vaginal tablets can be used as directed by your doctor. Keep the vulva dry every day and avoid wearing tight chemical fiber underwear.

    2. Vulvar eczema

People with allergies may develop vulvar erythema, papules and worsening itching at night after coming into contact with sanitary napkins, shower gel and other allergens. It is recommended to use desonide cream, hydrocortisone ointment and other weak hormone ointments, combined with oral administration of loratadine tablets. Avoid scratching, and the bath water temperature should not exceed 40°C.

    3. Diabetes

When blood sugar is poorly controlled, urinary glucose stimulation and peripheral neuropathy can lead to intractable itching of the vulva. Fasting blood glucose needs to be monitored and hypoglycemic drugs such as metformin hydrochloride tablets and glimepiride tablets should be used. Wash the perineum daily with warm water and dry completely.

    4. Clothing friction

Repeated friction of chemical fiber underwear or jeans may cause mechanical irritation, and the itching will be more obvious at night when you are concentrating. It is recommended to change to pure cotton breathable underwear and wash new clothes before wearing them. Apply Vaseline before going to bed to protect your skin barrier.

    5. Excessive cleaning

Frequent use of lotions to rinse the vagina will disrupt the acid-base balance and worsen itching. Just wash your vulva with water every day and avoid using alkaline soaps. You can try applying a cold compress to the itchy area for 10 minutes to relieve symptoms.

Maintain a regular schedule and a light diet, and limit the intake of spicy foods. Choose loose, breathable cotton underwear and change them daily to avoid prolonged sitting and overexertion. If itching lasts for more than 2 weeks or is accompanied by symptoms such as abnormal discharge or ulcers, you need to see a gynecologist as soon as possible to investigate the cause. It is not recommended to use lotions or ointments on your own as this may delay treatment.
