For girls, it is impossible to generalize whether a personal trainer for posture correction is useful or not. If you choose the right one and work well with it, it is a very cost-effective investment. If you step into the trap or don’t insist on it, it is entirely possible that the money will be wasted and the body will be harmed.
In the past two years, I followed popular tutorials on the Internet to adjust my rounded shoulders. Every time I did the exercises, my trapezius muscles hurt like crazy. My back did not become thinner but my shoulders looked stronger. Later, I found a personal trainer I knew well and had a sports rehabilitation certificate. I found out that my sternocleidomastoid muscle was too tight because I was working at a desk all the time. In addition, my core was weak and I couldn't support my upper body. Just doing back exercises was useless. It was like taking medicine indiscriminately when I had a cold. Not only was it not cured, but it might also have side effects. He first gave me muscle relaxation for almost two weeks, and then slowly taught me how to lower my shoulders and tighten my core. He even reminded me of my usual habit of holding the mouse with my arms crossed. In less than two months, my forward neck problem was mostly improved, and even the frequent migraines I had before were reduced a lot. This kind of personal trainer who understands evaluation and can find the root cause really saves a lot of time than trying to figure it out on my own.
But if you go to a personal trainer with the mentality that "if you sign up for a class and you'll instantly become a girl with square shoulders," you'll most likely be disappointed. My colleague just stepped into a trap last month. The salesperson at the gym told her that buying a 24-session posture class package can fully adjust the fake hip width and XO legs. It turned out that the personal trainer did not even know basic gait assessment, so he asked her to practice glute bridges and deadlifts with weights. After three weeks of training, her knees hurt and she had to struggle to go up and down the stairs. After going to the hospital and taking a film, she found out that the meniscus was worn because of the wrong alignment. It was a waste of money and she suffered. No wonder many people say that personal posture training is an IQ tax.
There are also many people who think, "It's useless even if I find a personal trainer." In many cases, there are actually problems on both sides. I signed up for a class with my former fitness partner, but I didn’t go there more than once a week. I usually slumped down on the chair and crossed my legs when I went to work. I carried a ten-pound computer bag on one shoulder during commuting, and my head was stretched out to touch the screen while browsing the phone. Two hours of training a week was not worth the remaining 160 hours of bad habits. After practicing for three months, I turned around and called the personal trainer a liar. It was actually a bit unfair.
There are also girls around me who have gradually improved their posture through professional education. After all, personal training is a tool to help you avoid detours. Whether you want to spend the money depends on whether the personal trainer you find is professional enough and can give you a complete assessment of your posture, gait and even living habits, and then see if you can persist in cooperating. If you are really not sure, buy two or three trial classes to try. It is much safer than impulsively spending tens of thousands to buy a class package.
