A new study shows that eating more olive oil, nuts, fish, poultry, and certain fruits and vegetables may be effective in preventing Alzheimer's disease. Researchers have found that if you take in nutrients that are beneficial to brain health, your risk of developing Alzheimer's disease will be 40% lower than normal people. Researchers at Columbia University in New York studied 2,148 healthy people over the age of 65.
They were required to provide a daily diet list and undergo Alzheimer's testing every one and a half years, with an average follow-up of four years. Of these, 253 developed Alzheimer's disease during the study period. The study found that people less susceptible to the disease tended to eat more salad dressings made with olive oil, nuts, fish, tomatoes, poultry, cruciferous vegetables, fruits and dark, leafy green vegetables; they ate less red meat, organ meats or high-fat dairy products.
Researchers say there may be two reasons why this eating habit works. On the one hand, because these foods are good for cardiovascular disease, they can prevent strokes and make Alzheimer's disease less likely to occur; on the other hand, it may be that the nutrients in the food, such as unsaturated fatty acids Omega-3, antioxidants and folic acid, directly protect the brain.
