Cervicitis and cervical erosion can be treated through various methods such as medication, physical therapy, and surgical intervention. Cervicitis is often caused by pathogenic infections or mechanical irritation, while cervical erosion is typically due to physiological columnar epithelial ectopy or chronic inflammation. The treatment approach should be selected based on the underlying cause and the severity of the condition.
1. Medication treatment
For bacterial cervicitis, anti-infective medications such as azithromycin tablets, doxycycline hydrochloride tablets, or metronidazole suppositories can be used as prescribed by a doctor. For fungal infections, clotrimazole vaginal tablets are recommended. If cervical erosion is accompanied by increased vaginal discharge, Baofukang suppositories or recombinant human interferon α2b vaginal effervescent tablets can be used topically. Medication treatment should be accompanied by regular follow-up examinations to avoid stopping the medication on your own.
2. Physical therapy
Suitable for cases of moderate to severe cervicitis or when the area of erosion is extensive, cryotherapy is commonly used to cause the diseased tissue to necrose and fall off, or laser therapy is employed to precisely vaporize the abnormal epithelium. Vaginal discharge may occur after physical therapy; it is important to maintain cleanliness in the perineal area. Sexual intercourse and sitz baths should be avoided for 2 months to prevent secondary infections.
3. Surgical treatment
For patients with recurrent chronic cervicitis or those suspected of having precancerous lesions, cervical conization or LEEP surgery can be performed to remove the affected tissue. Postoperative pathological examination is required to rule out malignant lesions. During the wound healing period, it is necessary to monitor any signs of bleeding. Intense physical activity should be avoided for 3 months after the surgery.
4. Traditional Chinese medicine for regulation
For the type characterized by damp-heat descending, Gynecological Qianjin Tablets combined with Kushen Gel can be used; for those with spleen deficiency and excessive dampness, a modified version of Wanda Decoction is appropriate. Traditional Chinese medicine fumigation and washing, such as the use of Phellodendron bark lotion, can help alleviate local redness and swelling, but it should be avoided during menstruation. Acupuncture points such as Guanyuan and Sanyinjiao are selected to regulate the immune system.
5. Daily Care
During treatment, use pure cotton underwear and change it daily. Avoid using alkaline detergents to wash the vagina. Condoms should be used throughout sexual activity to reduce the risk of cross-infection. Regular sleep patterns and moderate exercise help boost the immune system, and it is important to undergo cervical TCT and HPV screenings every year.
Sexual intercourse should be avoided during the acute phase of cervicitis. A follow-up examination to assess recovery should be conducted 2 months after physical therapy. Regularly observe any changes in the characteristics of the discharge, and seek medical attention promptly if contact bleeding occurs or if abdominal pain worsens. It is advisable to maintain a light diet and supplement with appropriate amounts of vitamin C and zinc, while avoiding spicy and stimulating foods. Maintaining emotional stability helps regulate endocrine functions and prevents excessive stress from triggering recurring inflammation.
