Prostatitis may cause testicular pain, but not all patients experience this symptom. Prostatitis is usually caused by factors such as bacterial infection, prolonged sitting, and holding in urine. It may be accompanied by symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and perineal discomfort. Testicular pain may be related to the spread of inflammation or nerve reflexes, and needs to be judged comprehensively in conjunction with other symptoms.
Testicular pain caused by prostatitis is more common in acute bacterial prostatitis or acute exacerbation of chronic prostatitis. Inflammation may spread to the epididymis and testicles through the vas deferens or lymphatic system, causing local congestion and edema, manifesting as dull pain and swelling in one or both testicles. Some patients may also experience radiation-induced testicular discomfort due to pelvic floor muscle tension or referred nerve pain. This type of pain usually worsens after urinating or when sitting for a long time, and is slightly relieved by activity.
Rarely, testicular pain may be associated with other medical conditions. Urogenital system diseases such as varicocele, epididymitis, and testicular torsion may also present with testicular pain and need to be identified through ultrasound or laboratory testing. If the pain lasts for more than 3 days and is accompanied by fever or scrotal redness and swelling, you need to be alert to emergencies such as orchitis.
When patients with prostatitis experience testicular pain, it is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and wear loose underwear to reduce compression. You can use tamsulosin hydrochloride sustained-release capsules, celecoxib capsules and other drugs as directed by your doctor to relieve symptoms, and use warm water sitz baths to promote local blood circulation. You need to maintain regular urination and avoid drinking alcohol and spicy food. If the pain does not relieve or worsens, you should seek medical treatment in time to investigate other causes.
