Ovarian masses may disappear on their own, depending on the nature and cause of the mass. Ovarian masses may be physiological or pathological. The former usually resolves without treatment, but the latter may require medical intervention.
Physiological ovarian masses are common in women of childbearing age, such as corpus luteum cysts, follicular cysts, etc. These masses are usually related to the menstrual cycle, are small in size and asymptomatic. As hormone levels change, most symptoms subside naturally within 1-3 months. When ultrasonic examination shows that the boundary of the mass is clear and there is no blood flow signal, more physiological reasons should be considered. It is recommended to reexamine the mass after 3 months to confirm the absorption.
Pathological ovarian masses such as endometriomas, teratomas or malignant tumors usually do not disappear on their own. Endometriomas can temporarily shrink with hormone fluctuations but are prone to recurrence, teratomas require surgical removal, and malignant tumors require comprehensive treatment. If the mass persists or symptoms such as abdominal pain or abnormal bleeding occur, or if ultrasound indicates that the mass has substantial components, rich blood flow, and rapid growth, you should seek medical attention promptly to investigate pathological factors.
After an ovarian mass is discovered, ultrasound should be reviewed regularly to observe changes, and strenuous exercise should be avoided to prevent the mass from torsion and rupture. Maintaining a regular schedule helps balance endocrine and reduce the occurrence of physiological cysts. If there is a history of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease or infertility, it is recommended to complete tumor marker testing to exclude the possibility of malignancy.
